Asset & Trailer Tracker Installation
P.G. Auto Installs puts GPS asset trackers on trailers and intermodal chassis — solar, battery, and hardwired — on-site at yards across Maryland, Virginia, DC, Delaware, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Dry vans, flatbeds, reefers, bare chassis: if it rolls, we mount a tracker on it that stays on it. Your equipment never leaves your operation.
Solar and Battery Trackers, Placed to Keep Working
Most trailers have no power to give. Solar and battery asset trackers exist for exactly that — but only if they're placed right. A solar unit mounted under a rail or in permanent shade never charges. A battery unit buried where nobody can reach it dies quietly and stays dead.
We place every unit for what it needs: clear sky for the panel, protection from impact, access for the day the battery gets swapped. We install Motive, Netradyne, and Samsara hardware, and effectively any 12-volt telematics platform. The physics of a good mount is the same on all of them.
Mounting That Survives Road Abuse and Weather
Trailer GPS tracker installation is mostly a mounting problem. A trailer takes abuse a tractor never sees — road spray, salt, dock hits, pressure washing, months parked out in the weather. A unit held on with hope comes off on the highway or corrodes off the frame.
We mount for the life of the trailer. Intermodal chassis are the hardest case — bare steel, no shelter, everything exposed — and we treat them that way.
- Solid surface, prepped — not stuck over road film or flaking paint
- Clear sky for solar panels, loaded or empty, every season
- Out of the spray path and off the forklift line
- Clear of doors, air lines, and landing gear
- Sealed cable entries wherever wiring runs
- Reachable for service without pulling the trailer from duty
Hardwired Where the Trailer Has Power
Some trailers do carry power — reefer units, liftgate circuits, lines fed through the seven-way. Where power exists, hardwiring the tracker means no battery to swap and no panel to keep clean. It reports whether the sun cooperates or not.
That wiring gets done the way 12-volt work should be: fused at the source, weatherproof connections, runs loomed and secured, a drip loop before every entry. Our nearly 40 combined years of 12-volt work started in car-audio shops, where a bad crimp came back to the counter. On a trailer, it comes back from three states away.
Yard-Wide Rollouts, Rig by Rig
A trailer pool doesn't stop moving so you can track it. We work your yard on your schedule — knock out what's on the lot, catch the rest as they cycle back in. Rig by rig until the whole pool reports.
We coordinate directly with your hardware vendor's shipment, so units arrive as installs are scheduled — not a pallet of trackers sitting in your office. One asset tracker installer, one standard, every rig mounted the same way.
We cover Maryland, Virginia, DC, Delaware, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania — the Mid-Atlantic, including the Baltimore–Washington corridor. Quotes within 48 hours.
Straight answers
Do trailers need power to run a tracker?
No. Solar and battery asset trackers run on their own — that's the point of them. Where a trailer does have power, like a reefer or liftgate circuit, hardwiring is often the better install. We look at each unit and tell you which fits.
Where do you mount a tracker on a trailer or chassis?
Where it can do its job and live to keep doing it. Solar panels need clear sky. Everything needs to sit out of the spray path, clear of doors, air lines, and forklift traffic, and stay reachable for service. On a bare intermodal chassis there's nowhere to hide a unit, so surface prep and fastening matter even more.
Can you handle a whole trailer pool?
Yes. That's the normal job, not the exception. We work rig by rig at your yard, catch trailers as they cycle back in, and coordinate the vendor's hardware shipment so units arrive as installs are scheduled.
Will trackers survive pressure washing and winter?
That's the mount's job as much as the tracker's. We prep the surface, fasten for the material, and seal every cable entry so spray, salt, and washdowns don't find their way in. A tracker that falls off in February wasn't installed — it was stuck on.
