A lot of ELDs get 'installed' in five minutes: splitter on the diagnostic port, cable zip-tied to the column, done. It holds until it doesn't. Rough road works the splitter loose, the unit loses the engine, and your drivers start catching data diagnostic events mid-route. Wired right looks different:

• The correct harness for the vehicle — never a universal adapter forced onto the wrong port
• Fused power connections, no bare splices behind the dash
• Routing secured clear of pedals, airbag zones, and driver movement
• Strain relief so vibration can't back a connector out
• Engine data verified live before we hand the keys back

The diagnostic port on a heavy tractor isn't the port on a cargo van, and neither one is the port on a pickup. Light-duty runs OBD-II. Heavy-duty runs multi-pin diagnostic connectors, and the details shift with make and model year. Get it wrong and the ELD reads nothing — or reads garbage.

An ELD rollout shouldn't take trucks off the road. We install at your yard, depot, or lot, truck by truck, scheduled around your dispatch. A vehicle is only out while it's being wired — then it's back to work.

Platform switches are where wiring sins surface. Ripped-out installs leave cut looms, dead splices, and holes in the dash — and the next unit inherits the mess. We de-install the old ELD properly: hardware out, wiring restored, cab clean.

Then the new platform goes in on fresh, correct connections — same visit. We install Motive, Netradyne, and Samsara hardware, and effectively any 12-volt telematics platform you're moving to.
